Collective bargaining under the 2019-2022 Sustainable Services Bargaining Mandate is complete at UVic and is underway across BC`s public sector. Nearly 290,000 of the 330,000 unionized public sector employees in BC are covered by interim agreements or ratified negotiated under this mandate. Teaching assistants, laboratory assistants, French and English teachers and community leaders are among the staff members of CUPE 4163 (1 -2) in collective bargaining with UVic. The collective agreement, which is now available on the staff website, contains a number of updates and changes as a result of the negotiation process. In some cases, the amendments led to approved operating savings and these savings were then diverted to support other changes to the agreement. CUPE 4163 is known as the Education Employees Union of the University of Victoria. The room consists of three «components,» each with its own tariff language. The agreements between the University of Victoria and CUPE 951 and CUPE 917 were ratified on 7 April. Previously, agreements were concluded and ratified with Local CUPE 4163 (components 1, 2 and 3), the AEP and the Faculty Association. In total, all of UVic`s 6,468 unionized workers are now covered by interim or ratified collective agreements negotiated under the province`s mandate. Some changes to health and extended dental plans have also been negotiated.
These changes are introduced for the duration of the agreement. Every two years, collective bargaining takes place with the university`s six unionized worker groups. Since April 2020, the University of Victoria has completed negotiations with the six of its members after negotiations that began in 2019.
